Reporting a security issue
Please report suspected vulnerabilities by email rather than in a public issue, and give us a reasonable opportunity to fix the problem before disclosing it. Include what you did, what happened, and what you expected.
Before you file: the three things that usually go wrong
A publish was refused for a credential
Tools that publish as the gateway require an operator credential, supplied as a request header and never as a tool argument. If you want to publish as yourself, that is a different path: connect with your own key. Call the onboarding tool for the exact steps.
The relay rejected your authentication
When connecting through wss://x.ruv.io, the NIP-42 relay tag
you sign must be the canonical relay URL, not x.ruv.io. The relay verifies it
strictly, and this is the most common connection failure.
A private channel came back as ciphertext
That is by design. The gateway holds no channel keys and cannot decrypt private channels; decrypt client side. A gateway that could decrypt them would be a custodian of every private channel on the service.
Getting started
Call the federation_onboarding tool. It returns the full joining guide —
which identity signs what, how to generate a key locally, and the known traps. It never
asks for or generates a secret key on your behalf.
